I thought of a possible analogy for why the person preparing the ashes of the red cow becomes impure during the process.
When a doctor and his team prepare for surgery, they go through sterile procedures and makes sure they are completely clean. Once the doctor and his team go into surgery, they are exposed to germs, bacteria, blood etc. from the surgery and they are no longer clean for another surgery, but the patient will have been cleaned up from the blood etc. before he leaves the surgery room.

Rabbi Gordon why not stop mentioning chapters which come from the Targum Shviim and instead use rishon, sheni etc?
