The success of our people’s mission rests on the Jewish woman. She engages her husband and children in what they learn and accomplish each day, thereby preparing them for a future of Torah. In our generation, women and girls are taught both the Oral Torah and the Bible, especially as they are illuminated by the teachings of Chassidism. Women and men are equally obligated to study Chassidism, because to “serve G-d wholeheartedly” requires “service of the heart” — which can only be cultivated through the study of Chassidism.
My father-in-law, the Rebbe, instituted that as the Festival of Shavuos approaches, every Jew should wish his fellow: “May you receive the Torah joyfully and internally.” But in order for Shavuos to be truly joyous and truly internalized, a Jew must already be joyful and must already internalize Torah in the days before Shavuos — especially the Jewish woman, who leads her household joyfully and with sincerity. |
