Rabbi, was there something wrong with my answer? Please explain. Reply

Yulanda Toronto February 17, 2025

6/10 I guess this score is a decent score! I need to learn more about trees! I was shocked that trees are also used for idol worship! I should have gotten at least two more right! But I chose the wrong answer! Next time! I hope to do better! thanks for these quizzes Rabbi! Shalom. Reply

Interesting is that ancient people did worship trees like the Ashera. but I will add that prior to Islam trees were worshipped too.. I would assume that trees were seen as a gift in the desert. of the Middle Easst. Reply

10/10. Not bad for a boy from Alabama with a 6th grade education. I may not know a lot, but I do know my farming! Reply

I took Trees In Judaism Quiz and got 10/10. This quiz was rather interesting. Thanks. Reply

I'm too old to do much climbing today, but the enactment seems harsh on boys and girls just past bar and bat mitzwa age. Reply

Rita Forbes Clinton February 13, 2025
in response to Axel Berger:

Good Morning, Axel

If you are still somewhat flexible, a good tree whose limbs are low and branches are strong and grow a couple of inches from the ground that you can sit on is the Red/Black Mulberry Tree. If you are unable to do that, you can sit under the tree and have a picnic and listen to the birds sing and watch them flutter about. Another joy is watching the laughter of children tree climbing and reminiscing what is was like for you when you were a youth/younger adult.

Best wishes! Reply

I love how the Ashira question has no storyline. It seems the quiz master is saying "Case closed", no news here. Reply

A. E February 12, 2025

I was thinking I would not do to well in the tree quiz. Surprisingly I got 10/10, Baruch Hashem. Reply

Raymond West Hollywood February 12, 2025

oh darn. i only got 8/10 this time around. I had no idea that one cannot climb trees on Shabbat. I also got the one wrong about chopping down trees during a siege. i had thought precisely the opposite on that issue. wow, so too solid wrongs. I must be losing my touch Reply

Axel Berger Köln-Ossendorf February 12, 2025
in response to Raymond :

This can be and has been generalized to not destroying the enemy's means of sustenance and not making his land uninhabitable. Are there any precedents of an enemy misusing a fruit tree a some kind of weapon and any ruling on that? Reply

Lyone February 12, 2025
in response to Raymond :

Yes, trees are not the enemy, nor are they able to run away from the battlefield. Reply

Yulanda Toronto February 17, 2025
in response to Raymond :

Raymond! as for me I got those two answers right! Because I remember reading in my Bible! That trees should not be destroyed in a siege! And as for climbing a tree on Shabbat! that's a no brainer! You shouldn't be doing any work on the Sabbaths! so in my opinion one shouldn't be climbing trees! its just my reasoning! even though I am not Jewish! The two questions that got me! was the one about how many years the fruit shouldn't be eaten! I was wrestling with the answers! And the question that said what should be done with the year after. Reply

Raymond West Hollywood February 13, 2025
in response to Lyone :

Well, my reasoning in answering the question as I did, is that I figured that unless one has a compelling reason, one should not uproot trees. Surely, though, one who is under siege is precisely in such a dire situation so as to warrant even the uprooting of trees Reply

Axel Berger Köln-Ossendorf February 14, 2025
in response to Raymond :

The rule is not for the besieged but for the besieger. You may fell trees and make battering rams of them but you must spare the enemy's fruit trees. Reply
